Stammtisch El Dorado is a German-American Friendship Club located in Placerville, CA just east of Sacramento in the beautiful Sierra Foothills. Our goals are to maintain our German heritage and have fun. Our club is comprised of Germans, Americans, Dutch, Swiss, and other nationalities. In addition to Oktoberfest and Fasching/Karneval, we meet throughout the year for several of our club’s other German-oriented events such as Lumpenball and Maifest.
Stammtisch El Dorado was founded on September 19, 1998 by Sybille Kraft our first president. From a small club with a few members, we have grown to a large group of friends over the past several years.
“Stammtisch” is a German word which describes a “friendship table at a favorite tavern,” traditionally reserved exclusively for regular patrons. Stammtisch El Dorado members meet regularly to enjoy good food and drink, traditional music with sing-alongs and “schunkeln,” *1 and good old-fashioned camaraderie in the spirit of “Gemuetlichkeit”.*2
Life’s too short to be disciplined and industrious ALL the time, so we promote lots of fun activities. Even though we are a relatively young organization, we celebrate many memorable events in old-world fashion: Oktoberfest, Advent, Fasching/Karneval (our own version of Mardi Gras), Lumpenball (Rag-Ball) and Maifest. Most of these events are for members only, but some are open to the general public. We also try to get together frequently for special interest outings, picnics or theme parties either at a gracious member’s private residence or a rented facility. Suggestions are always encouraged and will be implemented if sufficient interest and support exists.

*1 – “Schunkeln” is the traditional hooking of arms or holding of hands to sway with the music.

*2 – “Gemütlichkeit” means cozy ambience.
